It probably began in 1997 or so, when I started going to Anthrocon but I discovered that I like animal costumes. I like wearing them, posing for pictures and giving hugs, and dancing in costume. In recent years, I've also done some mascot gigs at charity events. The costumes are hot but a lot of fun. Over the years, I've acquired a bunch of them and here they are:

Salts RaccoonOriginally made by Ocicat. Purchased from Wildfox in January 2009 and debuted at Anthrocon 2009. I crowdsourced his name by asking on Twitter and Friendfeed for suggestions. I picked "Salts" because there's an amusing story behind it. This was the name of someone's pet raccoon. It's short for Saltpetre because the raccoon had a habit of interrupting them during sex. |

Chestnut HuskyOriginally made by Ocicat. Purchased from Wildfox in August 2006 and debuted at the Pompton Day Festival. Chestnut became the primary fursuit I used for mascot gigs because he is soft and kid-friendly, although admittedly his tail was a tempting target for tail-pullers. I named Chestnut after the cross street where I used to live in Northern New Jersey. |

This is the best-fitting fursuit I have, which is quite a surprise considering I was only going by rough measurements when I bid for it. Black WolfPurchased from Ocicat via online auction in 2003. Debuted at JerseyDevilCon 2003. It is a partial suit, i.e. only the head, paws and tail. (which I notice is missing from the picture. Oh well.) Partial suits are meant to be worn with street clothes. For this one, a long-sleeved shirt or jacket is required. The advantage of a partial, as opposed to a full suit, is in the ease of transportation and ease of wearing/removing it. Also, it is not as hot as a full suit although in my experience, most of the heat is in the head anyway so it really isn't that much better. |

UnicornPurchased at Things Unlimited, a thrift store, in Virginia Beach in 1999. Debuted at Anthrocon 2000. Very simple one-piece design, i.e. the head, hands and feet are all attached. It's a comparatively cheap starter suit. |
