My fursuits

It probably began in 1997 or so, when I started going to Anthrocon but I discovered that I like animal costumes. I like wearing them, posing for pictures and giving hugs, and dancing in costume. In recent years, I've also done some mascot gigs at charity events. The costumes are hot but a lot of fun. Over the years, I've acquired a bunch of them and here they are:

Salts Raccoon

Salts Raccoon

Originally made by Ocicat. Purchased from Wildfox in January 2009 and debuted at Anthrocon 2009. I crowdsourced his name by asking on Twitter and Friendfeed for suggestions. I picked "Salts" because there's an amusing story behind it. This was the name of someone's pet raccoon. It's short for Saltpetre because the raccoon had a habit of interrupting them during sex.

Chestnut Husky

Chestnut Husky

Originally made by Ocicat. Purchased from Wildfox in August 2006 and debuted at the Pompton Day Festival. Chestnut became the primary fursuit I used for mascot gigs because he is soft and kid-friendly, although admittedly his tail was a tempting target for tail-pullers. I named Chestnut after the cross street where I used to live in Northern New Jersey.

Grey wolf

Grey Wolf

Purchased from Fallimar in February 2006 and debuted at the Middletown, CT, Penguin Plunge.

Coyote

Coyote

Purchased from TJCoyote (and originally made by Ocicat) via online auction in 2004. Debuted at Anthrocon 2004. This is the best-fitting fursuit I have, which is quite a surprise considering I was only going by rough measurements when I bid for it. In fact, it seems to fit me better than TJCoyote, for whom it was made.

Black wolf

Black Wolf

Purchased from Ocicat via online auction in 2003. Debuted at JerseyDevilCon 2003. It is a partial suit, i.e. only the head, paws and tail. (which I notice is missing from the picture. Oh well.) Partial suits are meant to be worn with street clothes. For this one, a long-sleeved shirt or jacket is required. The advantage of a partial, as opposed to a full suit, is in the ease of transportation and ease of wearing/removing it. Also, it is not as hot as a full suit although in my experience, most of the heat is in the head anyway so it really isn't that much better.

Unicorn

Unicorn

Purchased at Things Unlimited, a thrift store, in Virginia Beach in 1999. Debuted at Anthrocon 2000. Very simple one-piece design, i.e. the head, hands and feet are all attached. It's a comparatively cheap starter suit.

Lion

Lion

Also purchased at Things Unlimited in Virginia Beach in 1999. Never debuted.
